Rainbow trout:

Trout fishing in the spring opens on June 11th and we generally pull small plugs this time of year for them until the salmon start spawning in the fall and then we will switch over to drift fishing beads or flies imitating egg patterns or flesh patterns. Rainbows in the Kenai River average about 3 to 10lbs with an occasional 15lb beauty being landed. Limits on trout fishing are one fish under 16" making it mostly a hook & release fishery. We also catch some Dolly Varden along with fishing for Rainbows most of these trout are 1 to 5lbs.
